Come Walk with Sisters and Brothers at our City’s MLK Jr. Day Celebration!!

Monday, January 15th from 1:00-5:00 p.m. in downtown Temple. (Flyer attached).

There will be food trucks and fun activities for kids.

At Redeemer, we seek to be shaped by the gospel and motivated by the gospel.

The gospel is the “good news” of what Jesus has already accomplished, through his death and resurrection, for our salvation and the restoration of the world. The gospel is not something we do, but something Jesus has done. And we have to keep the gospel distinct from the fruits of the gospel. But the gospel must bear fruit in our lives. If we focus on the gospel, as it is pumped through us via the ministry of the Word and sacrament, it will and must bear fruit in all sorts of different areas including mercy, missions, evangelism, worship, etc.

The gospel is the power of God to transform hearts, souls, minds, motives, families, cities, cultures, societies . . . the entire cosmos.

“For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” (Colossians 1:19-20 ESV)

The gospel speaks to every area of life. And when the gospel is at work in our hearts, we should expect it to uncover and expose attitudes and motivations in our hearts that need to be re-oriented and transformed.

One very tangible action we can take to demonstrate that the gospel we believe stands against and undermines the various forms of racism we are susceptible to is to be physically and personally engaged with people from all kinds of races and backgrounds. Not only are the things we engage in expressions of what we believe and how we feel, they can also have a powerful formative and shaping influence on our hearts and minds.

To that end, we hope that you will come out and celebrate with our city on Monday, because we believe in the reconciling power of the gospel of Jesus.
